Researchers at the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University conducted a new poll for the upcoming Governor’s race in late July (7/17-25; 806 VA adults; 707 registered voters; 538 general election likely voters), but are releasing the report only now. According to the results, Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam (D) leads former Republican National Committee chairman Ed Gillespie, 42-37%. This spread is consistent with other available data, and likely is an accurate depiction of where the race stands today. Mr. Gillespie is going to have to increase his campaign effort to change the race paradigm, but enough time remains to close the preference gap.
