Voters in Utah’s 3rd District complete the mail ballot process today in order to choose a new US Congressman. Former Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Alpine/Sandy) resigned the seat in June, and today’s winner will serve the balance of the current term and almost assuredly stand for a full term next year. Provo Mayor John Curtis, the Republican nominee, is the prohibitive favorite. This race has attracted very little attention, which is good news for the favored GOP. The district is solidly Republican, underscored by Hillary Clinton failing to even place second here last November. Mayor Curtis is expected to easily defeat Democratic nominee Kathryn Allen and four independent and minor party candidates.
