Similar to Mr. Peters’ situation described above, former PA Revenue Secretary Dan Meuser (R) announced where he will run under the new Pennsylvania congressional map. While Messrs. Peters and Meuser were opposing each other in the former open 11th District, the pair has split to different places under the new map configuration. As described above, Mr. Peters is now running in new District 8. Over the weekend, Mr. Meuser announced that he will run in open District 9, an open eastern-central PA district that should perform as a reliable Republican seat. This is the district where Rep. Lou Barletta (R-Hazelton) would likely have run if he did not enter the US Senate campaign.
Currently, Mr. Meuser would face minimal Republican opposition, but that situation will likely change as we get closer to the March 20th candidate filing deadline. We can expect a lively primary campaign here to be settled May 15th, with the eventual Republican nominee holding the seat in November. --Jim Ellis Comments are closed.
