Despite his loss in the District 18 special election on Tuesday night, state Rep. Rick Saccone (R-Canonsburg) is continuing to circulate nominating petitions to run in District 14 for the May 15th primary. The candidate filing deadline is next Tuesday, March 20th, so both he and Rep-Elect Conor Lamb (D-Pittsburgh) have to quickly pivot into a district on the new post-court redistricting map. Mr. Lamb is now circulating petitions in new District 17, a seat that has only 20.4% of the district constituency he just won, but is friendlier to a Democratic candidate than the new 14th. In the 17th, however, he must face three-term Rep. Keith Rothfus (R-Sewickley) who sees 56% of his current 12th District transfer to this new Pittsburgh area CD.
Though Mr. Saccone appears already to be running again, he will not slip through the Republican primary unopposed. State Sen. Guy Reschenthaler (R-Bethel Park), who entered the convention nomination process for the special election but lost to Mr. Saccone, is also circulating petitions and apparently will enter the new congressional primary before Tuesday. --Jim Ellis Comments are closed.
