Yesterday, former US. Rep. Betty Sutton (D) announced that she will enter the open Governor’s campaign, being the second Democrat to declare her candidacy. After her defeat in 2012, when being paired in one district with Rep. Jim Renacci (R-Wadsworth) after Ohio lost two seats in reapportionment, President Obama appointed Ms. Sutton as the CEO of the St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation. She joins state Senate Minority Leader Joe Schiavoni as announced Democratic candidates, with others sure to follow. Gov. John Kasich (R) is ineligible to seek a third term. This will be one of the most important gubernatorial campaigns in the 2018 election cycle. Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor and Attorney General and former US Sen. Mike DeWine are the announced Republican candidates.
