Veteran New York Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-Rochester) announced that she will run for a 17th term later this year. Ms. Slaughter, who will celebrate her 90th birthday in office should she win re-election, had a close call in her Lake Ontario border district anchored in the cities of Rochester and Irondequoit, in 2014 when she won re-election by just 871 votes.
In January, local neurosurgeon Jim Maxwell (R) announced his candidacy. Though the Congresswoman will obviously be favored for re-election, this contest may merit watching particularly when remembering her small victory percentage in the last midterm election.
