Former state House Speaker Bill O’Brien, coming from the right faction of the New Hampshire Republican Party, confirms he is considering challenging Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D) next year. The Senator has already announced that she will seek a third term.
The bigger story, however, is whether two-term Gov. Chris Sununu (R) will decide to enter the Senate race. More speculation includes his name as a potential candidate, and a new Emerson College poll that we reported about earlier in the week finds him already drawing into a flat tie with the incumbent Senator and former Governor.
New Hampshire is a swing state, and one where the electorate moves wildly between elections. Therefore, any credible challenge to Sen. Shaheen must be viewed seriously.
