It is becoming very clear that Attorney General Josh Hawley is the man the national Republican hierarchy wants to challenge Sen. Claire McCaskill (D). Reports are emanating from local Missouri media sources that Vice President Mike Pence called the new AG to encourage him to enter the Senate race. Upon hearing the news, McCaskill immediately went on the attack, pointing out that the centerpiece of Hawley’s campaign for Attorney General was to halt the trend of office seekers quickly moving from one office to the next. McCaskill told the Springfield (MO) News Ledger that "…it seems weird to me that you’d do a whole commercial trying to convince people you’re not a politician and not going to immediately run for another office, and then 10 minutes later, you’re running for another office. I think that’s the definition of a stone-cold politician," Sen. McCaskill concluded.
