Remington Research tested the Missouri electorate regarding the impending 2018 Senate race (7/7-8; 928 MO registered voters) and actually finds incumbent Sen. Claire McCaskill (D) trailing several potential Republican challengers. Interestingly, one person not tested was Attorney General Josh Hawley (R) who is generally rated as the strongest potential Republican nominee.
Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-Harrisonville/Columbia), who is openly considering entering the Senate race, leads Sen. McCaskill, 48-44%, according to the Remington data. Others thought to be less inclined to run also fare well. Doing the best is Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-St. Elizabeth/Jefferson City), who scores a 50-43% margin. State Treasurer Eric Schmitt and Rep. Jason Smith (R-Salem/Cape Girardeau) notch similar 49-45 and 48-45% spreads against the two-term Democratic Senator. We can expect a counter polling release to soon come from the McCaskill camp.
