Rep. Ann Wagner (R-St. Louis County) was expected to make a major announcement in July, and that she did, but it didn’t turn out as expected. Instead of announcing her US Senate bid, Rep. Wagner changed her mind and will instead seek re-election. It is a surprising conclusion to her brief Senate venture, which already resulted in more than $1 million raised. But, she said her desire to concentrate more fully on representing her home area led to her decision to remain in the House.
The move may well signal that Attorney General Josh Hawley (R), who has been urged to run for the Senate by many of the state’s GOP leaders, will enter the race. The Missouri challenge to Sen. Claire McCaskill (D) is at the very top of the GOP conversion target list. Therefore, we will be hearing much more about this political situation in the coming weeks.
