Ben Jealous, the former national NAACP president, announced yesterday that he will enter the Democratic gubernatorial primary in hopes of challenging Gov. Larry Hogan (R). Mr. Jealous joins a field that includes state Sen. Rich Madaleno (D-Montgomery County), technology executive Alex Ross, former state University Regent Jim Shea, and retired teacher Ralph Jaffe, with others, most particularly US Rep. John Delaney (D-Potomac), soon expected to follow. Though Maryland is a heavily Democratic state, Mr. Hogan, who boasts some of the best approval ratings of any Governor in the country, is an early favorite for re-election.
