The “Kid Rock” for Senate campaign has attracted much attention during the past week, and now another poll has come into the public domain. The new survey is on the heels of the Trafalgar Group poll that we discussed yesterday showing Robert Ritchie (Kid’s real name) trending ahead of Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D) 49-46% when “leaners” were added. Now, a Target-Insyght poll (released to the LA Times 7/31; 800 MI likely voters) finds Ritchie not doing as well as Trafalgar and a Delphi Analytica poll (somewhat discredited, but showing Ritchie also leading Sen. Stabenow) projected, but still in good shape for a challenger candidate. According to Target-Insyght, the Senator leads Ritchie 50-42%.
The commonality among these various polls is that they each show Ritchie as a credible contender. Though he has launched a Kid Rock for Senate website, Mr. Ritchie has not officially become a candidate, nor has he announced definitively that he will run. Since the polling numbers are better than one would have expected, it is becoming more likely that he may well begin to campaign in earnest.
