Speculation was arising that veteran Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Chicago) might be considering retiring since he had not filed his re-election petitions. Today is the candidate filing deadline in Illinois, the first candidate close of the 2018 election cycle, and Rep. Rush is filing for another term. He was first elected in 1992, and has only faced serious Democratic opposition once: in the 2000 election from a state Senator named Barack Obama. Rep. Rush will again cruise to re-election in 2018.
