Democrats are fielding a large number of candidates during the early election cycle, but so many are competing against each other for the same seats. The Des Moines-anchored 3rd Congressional District of Iowa is one of those places. Yesterday, businesswoman Theresa Greenfield, who owns a Des Moines real estate company, announced that she will join the burgeoning field of contenders vying to challenge two-term Rep. David Young (R-Van Meter/Des Moines). Four other Democrats, like Ms. Greenfield in that they have no elective office experience, previously announced their candidacies. Under Iowa law, if no candidate reaches 35% of the popular vote in the June primary, a special district convention is then called for local delegates to decide the nomination. In 2014, it was the convention process that nominated Mr. Young after he placed fourth in the Republican primary.
