Last week we reported that state Rep. Mike Miller (R-Orlando) announced he will challenge freshman Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D-Winter Park) next year in what promises to be a tight election. But, Mr. Miller may not have the GOP field all to himself. State Sen. David Simmons (R-Longwood) declared after the Miller announcement that he is still “98% likely” to run. Ms. Murphy ousted veteran Rep. John Mica (R-Winter Park), 51.5 – 48.5%, last November in a district that the state Supreme Court justices made more Democratic in their mid-decade redistricting order. Irrespective of who becomes the Republican nominee, the 7th District will host a hot 2018 congressional campaign.
