Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Ft. Walton Beach), just elected to the House for the first time in November, may be readying himself to jump ship for a statewide political bid. Speculation is rampant that Rep. Gaetz, a former three-term state Representative, is seriously considering running for the open Attorney General’s position next year. Gaetz does not confirm or deny the rumors, saying only that his job is to “serve northwest Florida in Congress.” The Representative’s district is the westernmost seat in the Florida Panhandle, anchored within the Pensacola region and the communities surrounding Choctawhatchee Bay. The seat is safely Republican.
