Last week, Rep. Jose Serrano (D-Bronx) announced that he would not be seeking re-election after what will be almost 30 years in the House once this congressional session concludes. Before the Congressman’s announcement, New York City Councilman Ritchie Torres (D) had already announced his candidacy. Now, Elias Alcantara, a former Obama Administration official, is rumored to be considering entering the congressional contest.
We can expect many Democrats to enter next year’s primary. This is the most Democratic seat in the country (Trump: 4.9%), so the succession battle will be settled in the party primary.
