With North Carolina Rep. Walter Jones (R-Farmville) confirming that he will not seek a 14th congressional term next year, the GOP open seat candidate field is already starting to develop. Both 2018 Republican candidates Phil Law, an Iraq War veteran, and Craven County Commissioner Scott Dacey confirm they are likely to run again in 2020.
In the May ’18 Republican primary, Mr. Jones won re-nomination with a 43-29-28% win over Messrs. Law and Dacey. Because of the state’s 40% run-off law, Rep. Jones was re-nominated even though he did not receive majority support from the party electorate. He was unopposed in the general election, however.
