The Louisiana Governor’s race isn’t until next year, but incumbent John Bel Edwards (D) has already drawn his first official opponent. Wealthy businessman and regular GOP donor Eddie Ripsone announced that he will become a gubernatorial candidate. He is pledging to ingest $5 million of his own money to his new campaign.
Mr. Ripsone will not be the only Republican candidate. Also considering the race are US Sen. John Kennedy, Attorney General Jeff Landry, and Rep. Ralph Abraham (R-Alto/Alexandria). The 2019 Louisiana race is expected to be highly competitive.
