Not surprisingly, the Texas Senate race is projected to be expensive and the third quarter reports verify the prediction. Sen. Ted Cruz (R) is going to report over $2 million raised with more than $6.3 million in his campaign account. Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-El Paso), the presumed consensus Democratic candidate, pulled in almost as much: $1.7 million, but has much less in the bank. Rep. O’Rourke will report $2.8 million on-hand, a respectable amount, but only the beginning for what will be a multi-million dollar effort. Sen. Cruz is the clear favorite for re-election, but O’Rourke will have the ability to raise copious national money from the Democratic financial network, but it likely won’t have a great effect upon the outcome.
