While Philadelphia Congressman Brendan Boyle (D) announced over the weekend that he will not enter the open US Senate campaign next year, two more Democrats announced on Monday that they will run. Montgomery County Commission chair Val Arkoosh and physician Kevin Baumlin (D) both announced their candidacies.
Including these two latest entries, Democrats now have 11 active candidates running for the state’s open US Senate seat. Analysts believe of that number, only three are top tier. The apparent early leader is Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, while state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta (D-Philadelphia) and Ms. Arkoosh would be regarded as the other major announced candidates. Republicans see much less activity though have many potential candidates considering the race. Sen. Pat Toomey (R) is not seeking a third term.
