Two days ago, we covered the GOP announcement that the party leaders have scheduled a district nominating convention for purposes of replacing resigned Pennsylvania Rep. Tom Marino (R-Williamsport). The GOP leaders chose March 2nd as their convention day, but yesterday Democrats completed their job.
An announcement was made that college professor and 2018 congressional nominee Marc Friedenberg will be awarded the party ballot designation for the May 21st special general election. Mr. Friedenberg fell to Rep. Marino, 66-34%, in the November 2018 congressional contest.
The eventual special election winner will serve the balance of the current Congress and be eligible to seek re-election to a full term in the regular 2020 election cycle. The winner of the March 2nd Republican special convention will be rated as a clear favorite to hold the seat.
