The Siena College/New York Times House polling project continues, and a surprising result is coming from North Carolina. Most observers believe this open seat will flip to the Democrats in the person of businessman Dan McCready, but this survey suggests otherwise. In the poll (10/1-5; 502 NC-9 likely voters), Siena/NYT sees former Baptist pastor Mark Harris (R) holding a 47-42% advantage. Earlier in the year, Mr. Harris defeated Rep. Bob Pittenger (R-Charlotte) thus opening the seat for the general election. The 9th District is a Republican seat, but one that appears to be moving closer to the political center. It encompasses part of the Charlotte metropolitan region and stretches all the way to Fayetteville along the North and South Carolina border.
