Despite Rep. David Loebsack (D-Iowa City) retiring after this term, 2016 and ’18 Republican nominee Christopher Peters announced over the weekend that he will not seek the open seat next year. Mr. Peters actually did better when spending less money. In 2016, with just over $200,000 in expenditures, but with President Trump carrying the district, Mr. Peters captured 46% of the vote. But, in 2018, with almost $900,000 spent to boost his candidacy, his vote percentage dropped to 42.
