The Tarrance Group, polling for Rep. John Carter’s (R-Georgetown) campaign, finds the veteran Congressman posting a 21-point lead over his Democratic opponent, Afghan War veteran and author M.J. Hegar. The Tarrance data gives Mr. Carter a surprisingly large 54-33% lead.
Ms. Hegar has raised well into seven figures and been advertising heavily in the Williamson and Bell Counties district that lies north of Austin, and the seat has come into the competitive realm for the first time since the Congressman was originally elected back in 2002. The 31st was a new seat that Texas gained in 2000 reapportionment. Mr. Carter is the only individual to represent the CD since its creation.
