Literally just days after state Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi (D) announced his challenge to freshman Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-New Hartford), a major Democratic leader has already issued a public endorsement. US Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) announced his support for Mr. Brindisi over the weekend in a bit of a surprising move. It is rare to see a major party leader come out publicly in what could be a primary battle in the succeeding year. Rep. Tenney won a three-way contest last November with just 44% of the vote. Retired Rep. Richard Hanna (R-Barneveld) is now openly considering returning to the political battlefront, but this time as an Independent candidate. The 22nd District race will be one to watch closely.
