Earlier this week, in a surprising political twist, came information that state Sen. Scott Hammond (R), who just filed a political committee to run in the newly open 3rd District, is apparently willing to switch to the more Democratic 4th District since ex-4th District Rep. Cresent Hardy (R-Mesquite) is now expressing interest about moving to the Third. If this isn’t confusing enough, Las Vegas City Councilman and former mayoral candidate Stavros Anthony announced yesterday that he will run in the 4th, thus potentially setting up a Republican primary battle. The good news for Republicans is they will field a strong challenger against freshman Rep. Ruben Kihuen (D-Las Vegas), but it is unclear if enduring a competitive primary campaign would be in the eventual winner’s best interest.
