The aforementioned Siena College poll (see NY-18 in the House section above) also produced good news for Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The new poll results stake him to a huge spread over his main Democratic primary challenger, actress Cynthia Nixon. The Siena survey finds the Governor holding a whopping 63-22% lead, but he will still see the former Sex and the City actress again in the general election. Win or lose in Thursday’s state primary, she will advance into the general as the Working Families Party nominee.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I/D-VT), again a potential presidential candidate, made an interesting move in the Governor’s campaign. While endorsing Cynthia Nixon’s Lt. Governor running mate, New York City Councilman Jumaane Williams, he did not extend his support to Ms. Nixon. Therefore, Sen. Sanders remains silent in the NY Governor’s contest. Obviously, New York will be a very important state on the Democratic presidential primary schedule, so it’s obvious the Senator is already beginning to play his political cards for the next national campaign.
