Immediately after the June 6th primary elections that nominated former US Ambassador to Germany Phil Murphy (D) and Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno (R), Quinnipiac University went into the field to see how the two candidates would perform against each other. According to the data (7/7-12; 1,103 NJ registered voters) Mr. Murphy jumps out to a major lead over Ms. Guadagno, 55-26%.
While Murphy has a 33:18% favorability index, Ms. Guadagno is already upside down, to the tune of 20:28%. In comparison, President Trump scores a poor 28:66% job approval rating, and Gov. Chris Christie (R) is at an all-time low for any New Jersey Governor, sporting a horrific 15:81% approval score. All of this puts Ms. Guadagno at a severe disadvantage heading into the November election. With numbers like these, Mr. Murphy simply needs to keep relatively quiet during the campaign, and commit no unforced errors that might derail his campaign.
