Quinnipiac University immediately went into the field after the Florida primary and found a predictably close budding gubernatorial contest. According to their latest survey (8/30-9/3; 785 FL registered voters), Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum (D) holds a slight 50-47% lead over Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Palm Coast/Daytona Beach).
But, this result reflects a Gillum favorability index of 46:33% versus a tougher 45:43% for DeSantis. This is largely due to Mr. Gillum making a late surge in the Democratic primary and winning the nomination without taking any negative advertising hit. Such will certainly change in the general election campaign.
