Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum (D) officially kicks off his campaign for Governor today. Mr. Gillum had been making recent statements alluding to entering next year’s statewide political contest, and now has formally done so. He becomes the first major Democratic candidate to declare for the open seat. Former US Representative Patrick Murphy (D-Jupiter), who lost a decisive contest to Sen. Marco Rubio (R) last fall (52-44%), is another potential Democratic contender. So is former Rep. Gwen Graham (D-Tallahassee). The latter’s political aspirations have been put on at least a temporary hold because of her husband’s prostate cancer diagnosis.
