The open South Florida 27th District is another seat that is drawing a great many Democratic candidates. Yesterday, former Miami Herald newspaper reporter Matt Haggman became the eighth Democrat to enter the race, with more contemplating joining. The free-for-all Democratic primary won’t be decided until August 28, 2018, so we have a full year of the candidates jockeying for position. Republicans currently have two prominent candidates: former Miami-Dade School Board member Raquel Regalado, daughter of Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado, and Miami-Dade County Commissioner Bruno Barreiro. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Miami) is retiring. The 27th is the most Democratic district in the country to elect a Republican House member.
