Late yesterday afternoon, a federal judge in Colorado declared the state’s election law that requires petition circulators to be state residents as unconstitutional. The decision, which is consistent with previous federal rulings from around the country, reinstates Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-Colorado Springs) to the 2018 Republican primary ballot…at least for now. Attorneys for the plaintiffs say they will appeal. If so, the subsequent proceeding will be heard on an emergency basis because the Colorado ballot printing deadline is May 12th. Rep. Lamborn faces state Sen. Owen Hill (R-Colorado Springs) and El Paso County Commissioner Darryl Glenn in the June 26th Republican primary.
