New data is forthcoming in the Alabama special primary election that voters will decide tomorrow. The Trafalgar Group, the most accurate pollster on the scene in recent elections (8/8-10; 1,439 AL GOP likely primary voters), finds former state Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore leading the Republican field with 35% preference. Appointed Sen. Luther Strange (R) is second with 23%, while Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville) is rapidly closing with 20%.
Other pollsters also find Moore with a comfortable first place advantage but with Sen. Strange’s grasp on second place being much stronger. The top two finishers will advance to a September 26th run-off because no one appears close to obtaining majority support. For the Democrats, marketing executive and retired Navy officer Robert Kennedy Jr. and ex-US Attorney Doug Jones appear headed toward their own run-off campaign.
